The immense knowledge required for the creation of complex software systems is widely distributed among many stakeholders, and the success of software development hinges on how the stakeholders are able to share and combine their knowledge through cooperation, collaboration and co-construction. The goal of the workshop is to bring researchers and practitioners together to discuss theoretical, social, technological and practical issues of understanding and supporting knowledge collaboration during software construction process.

The workshop is a part of the 2009 International Symposia on Artificial Intelligence (isAI2009) organized by the Japanese Society of Artificial Intelligence, and will be held on Nov. 19-20, 2009 at Tokyo, Japan.

Topics

Suggested topic areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • formation of shared understanding between users and developers during conceptualization, design, deployment and use of software systems
  • technical issues in accessing external knowledge resources and acquiring expertise from peer developers
  • social issues in facilitating knowledge transfer
  • socio-technical approaches to motivating participation in knowledge collaboration
  • utilization of social networks to connect developers for knowledge collaboration
  • understanding how knowledge is accumulated, transferred and shared among software developers
  • analyzing and understanding the unique features of knowledge collaboration specific to software development such as pair programming, inspection, maintenance and end-user development

Papers that describe either research progress or industrial experience related to knowledge collaboration in software development are solicited. Submitted papers will be reviewed by the program committee for their relevance as well as theoretical, technological and practical contributions to the topics of the workshop. We especially encourage the submission of provoking or unconventional ideas that can lead to lively and productive discussions and inspire new research ideas and directions.

Accepted papers will be included in a post-proceeding published by Springer Verlag, together with other workshops of isAI2009.
